We see leadership as inherent to arts and cultural work, and leadership development takes training, community and opportunities: we want to offer all three.

We are currently experiencing the powerful rise of Christian nationalism, impacting all of our movements for justice: attacks on trans people, immigrants, reproductive rights, the climate, Palestine and Palestine solidarity, and movement infrastructure broadly. These attacks—and the movements behind them—are growing in strength and visibility via the MAGA right, but they aren’t new; they have been building for years. In order to understand our current conditions—and defend against attacks on our movements—we need to understand how we got here, and what we are facing.
This training is a broad introduction to the landscape, ideology, history, and tactics of Christian nationalism, how they are connected to other mechanisms of systemic oppression, and how they target all our movements and communities. We will look at some of the ways that Christian nationalists leverage government and civil society towards their authoritarian goals, and how we can resist. We will break down how these threats impact your work—and how we and our movements (from all of our identities and experiences in relation to Christianity) can fight them.

Hey there!
Thank you for your interest in “Making Sense of Christian Nationalism-And How the Left Can Fight It", a political education training from Roan Boucher of Pollinator Consulting. I am thrilled that The School of Making Thinking is able to offer this training for FREE because of our belief that arts and culture workers need political education in order to be strategic in their arts practice and leadership. Over the past two years, we have run two other trainings with Roan: "Uprooting White Supremacy in Organizations" and "Liberation for Us All: Queer and Trans Liberation as Collective Liberation." Both of these workshops had great attendance and supported some really productive conversation, relationship building, and analysis amongst participants. Since leaving his role with the Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance (AORTA) a year ago, Roan continues to offer these fantastic political education trainings, and we are thrilled to be building on the momentum of the past two years with this year's training. Thank you to those of you who attended last year; I look forward to seeing you again this year.
It is an important time to be deepening our analysis of how power is moving in the United States, and to understand how to strategically resist. I am personally really looking forward to deepening my understanding of how Christian Nationalism has emerged, how it has amassed power, what forces animate it, and how this framework links many of our struggles for justice.
