CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The School of Making Thinking (SMT) is now accepting proposals for artists and thinkers to teach a class for our NYC Fall 2019 Semester in partnership with Abrons Arts Center (a performing and visual arts center in the Lower East Side). SMT classes seek to bring rigorous thinking into conversation with experimental pedagogies by combining intellectual practices (reading texts, writing, dialogue, etc.) with artistic practices (dance, theater, design, film, etc).  Please see past courses for examples.

Proposals are due Friday June 28th 2019
Proposals should be emailed to theschoolofmakingthinking@gmail.com
and should include in the subject line "2019 Fall Proposal".

Specifications:
•Courses will run for 8 weeks from around the end of September until early December.
•Each class in a course will meet once a week for 2 hours.
•Courses will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 7-9pm.
•We are willing to accept proposals that deviate from these models, but please specify the details of your course’s meeting times in the proposal itself.  No course can run more than 16 hours total.
•Teacher are paid $800 for their course ($50/hour)
•Courses cost (for students) $220 for an 8 week course
•IMPORTANT.  Because SMT does not have the budget to hire a marketing team for these courses, it is the teacher’s responsibility to be able to draw a class size of at least 5 students in order for a course to run.  If a course does not meet this class size minimum by the 1st day of class, the class will be cancelled.

Proposal guidelines:
 •Your CV
•Bio (max 200 words)
•A title for the course
•A brief description of the course. Please make sure the description includes HOW the course will run (pedagogy, activities, etc.)  (max 200 words)
•A 1-3 sentence abbreviated description of the course
•Specify which weekday evenings would work for you to have the class.
•2-3 images to advertise your class (including image credit if applicable)
•A write-up that details your ability to draw 5+ students to your course.  This would ideally include examples of successful marketing for past events or courses, AND a detailed marketing plan for your SMT class.  (max 200 words)
