Our Artist Leadership Training Program (ALTP) is a branch of our programming that aims to cultivate ethical leadership development within our organization and our community at large. We see leadership as inherent to arts work as well as world-building, and leadership development takes training, community and opportunities: we want to offer all three.

A note from our Artistic Executive Director:
Hey there!
Thanks for your interest in Uprooting White Supremacy in Organizations from the Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance (AORTA). I am really excited to resource The School of Making Thinking's and my own anti-racist work with this organizational framework, and I am looking forward to doing this training alongside other SMT leadership and our broader community of artists and alumni.
We are launching our Artist Leadership Training Program with this AORTA training for two reasons: 1) Leadership is about power, and we want to cultivate shared frameworks within our organization and our community about how power is working; and 2) I want to work alongside you in my own leadership development because ethical leadership takes ongoing learning as well as the support and accountability of community; this is not a top-down training, but rather aimed at cultivating conversation, analysis, and community. I am hoping to come out of this training with some shared language in order to continue the conversation about ethical growth and leadership with you.
We are thrilled to be able to offer this program for free, thanks to the incredible support we received for our Kickstarter last year. Thank you to everyone who championed this next phase of our strategic growth by donating. I am hoping that all of our 200 backers will take advantage of this free training opportunity!
The training itself will be pretty information-heavy, and so we will have facilitated follow up discussion groups held by AORTA facilitators to process and integrate the learning, one right after the training and the next a week later, specific dates and times TBA. There will be two discussion groups, one for white participants and one for BIPOC participants. We will encourage you to join the group that aligns with how you identify. This is so that our experiences of white supremacy as they relate uniquely to our identities will have spacious compassion as we unpack and process the training.
Do you have further questions? Feel free to email [email protected]. Also check out AORTA's website for more info on the training and this sample agenda for what to expect.
If you like this work and you want to see us do more of it, please consider making a donation HERE.
I really look forward to connecting with you.
In gratitude,
