CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The School of Making Thinking (SMT) is now accepting proposals for artists and thinkers to teach a virtual class for our Spring 2021 Semester in partnership with Abrons Arts Center (a performing and visual arts center in the Lower East Side). SMT classes seek to bring rigorous thinking into conversation with experimental pedagogies by combining intellectual practices (reading texts, writing, dialogue, etc.) with artistic practices (dance, theater, design, film, etc).  Please see our Fall 2020 courses for examples, or our archive of past courses.

Proposals are due Thursday December 31st 2020. Proposals should be emailed to theschoolofmakingthinking@gmail.com and should include in the subject line "2021 Spring Proposal".

Specifications:

Courses will run for 5 consecutive weeks during one of two cycles:
Cycle 1 Week of Feb 22 – Week of March 22
Cycle 2 Week of April 5 – Week of May 3

•Each class in a course will meet once a week for 2 hours.
•Courses will be held on weekday evenings from 7-9pm EST.
•Courses will cap at 20 students
•Teacher are paid $500 for their course ($50/hour for 10 teaching hours / cycle)
•Courses cost (for students) will run at a discounted rate of $125 for a 5 week course [plus a $25 registration fee]
•Abrons/SMT will offer sliding scale tuition rates to BIPOC students.
•Classes will be held online. While Abrons will provide a professional zoom account you are welcome to use, we also encourage other innovative platforms and methodologies that foster togetherness in lieu of not being together in person.
•IMPORTANT.  Because SMT does not have the budget to hire a marketing team for these courses, it is the teacher’s responsibility to be able to draw a class size of at least 6 students in order for a course to run. If a course does not meet this class size minimum by the 1st day of class, the class will be cancelled.

Proposal guidelines:

•Your CV
•Bio (max 200 words)
•A title for the course
